JHC - Round 4 : Sallins 2-10, Maynooth 0-9

Sallins Junior hurlers continued their improvement in form with a 7 point victory over Maynooth on Friday 24th Aug. This was the teams 2nd victory in the space of 3 days & moved them to the top of the Championship table.

The game was a repeat of the Junior League final in which Maynooth pulled away in extra time to win by 5 points, as the older Sallins team seemed to tire. On Friday night, it was Sallins' young guns that dictated the result. Sallins started the game with seven Under 21 players & it was the hurling skills, fitness & strong tackling of the younger players that ensure Sallins dominated most areas of the field. In particular the midfielders Emmett Ralph & Eoin Ennis put in a tremendous hour of hurling. Eoin who was celebrating his 21st birthday on Friday put in a man-of-the-match performance scoring 6 points & covering every inch of the field.

Sallins led by 1-4 to 0-5 with the first half goal coming from TJ Gordon after a clever handpass from Oisin O'Domhnaill. Maynooth applied pressure in the first 10 minutes of the secod half but the Sallins defence did not concede a score, with excellent defensive work in particular from Ronan Dowling, Aidan Moran & Paul Smyth. Having repulsed the early Maynooth onslaught, Sallins struck back with a fine point from Gerry Glendon & a close range Conor Herbert goal after he took a pass from Glendon who had disposed the Maynooth goalkeeper as he attempted to solo out of his goal area. Herbert added a point a few minutes later & after that Sallins never looked like losing the game.

Sallins Scorers : Eoin Ennis 0-6, Conor Herbert 1-1, TJ Gordon 1-0, Aidan Moran 0-2, Gerry Glenson 0-1.  Sallins are now in a very good position to make the Semi-final but must get a least a draw in their final game to be 100% sure & not depending on other results.
